I hate dating. Especially online dating. Online dating is like a box of chocolates...ya never know what you're going to get. You don't know if it's really the person in their pictures, if those pictures were taken 20 years ago, if they were popular in high school or a serial killer. Quite honestly, I'd prefer to go to the dentist because at least at the dentist you can mentally prepare, you know what you're in for.
I love Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy. They used to always serve as my away messages on AIM. Well, either that or a provocative Britney Spears lyric. If you are not an old lady like me, you will remember away messages. I put much time and effort into them and by doing so, I became quite familiar with many of Jack Handy's brilliant musings.
I've read the articles where people respond to potential online suitors as Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City or as Rachel from friends. I decided I would respond as Jack Handy. I figured that if any guy looked at my response and responded with a deep thought of his own, I'd know I had found my soulmate.
SPOILER ALERT: I did not find my soulmate.
I did, however, amuse myself greatly. Hopefully you be amused as well.
Note: I am not Latina. I am flattered he thinks so though.
He stopped responding and unmatched with me after this. Unfortunately, we will never know what his favorite meal is.
This next guy seemed really nice and I feel a little bad. Not THAT bad though clearly.
He was probably the closest to being my soulmate. I hope he does meet someone great that's not off their rocker.
Definitely scared this next guy.
And that was that. I sent these texts to my mom figuring she'd think I was hilarious. She did not. First, she felt bad that I mentioned numerous times I felt like I didn't receive enough love from my family, friends or even bugs. She assured me that I was very loved and that she'd pay for me to have a "tune up" with my therapist. Then she asked why I was talking to guys like this when I'm 36 and single. She seemed quite concerned about it all, but I made sure to let her know that I knew I was very loved and not to worry because I was simply quoting Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy. I don't think this did not much to ease her concern because well, I'm still 36 and single. Still, I gotta hold out hope that my person is still out there. He's just running a little late. He must have missed the monorail.

All Time Favorite Eyeshadow Palettes
Eyeshadow palettes are so addicting. I have an overwhelming amount and it's really not necessary, but makeup brands just keep coming out with them. Then your favorite beauty gurus do tutorials and you're like I need this! When it comes to eyeshadow palettes, I care most about blendability and color pay off. I'd rather have to build color up a bit then have too much pigment and have the shadows be hard to blend. A shadow that is patchy and hard to blend is never fun and definitely not a good look.
All of the palettes below perform really well, have beautiful colors and can be used to create many looks. I'm also not going to include any limited edition palettes because that seems mean (RIP Tarte Clay Play Volume 1). As you will see, I also like palettes that are good to travel with (sturdy packaging, a mirror, have all the colors you would need). These are listed in the order that I love them (Soft Glam being my all time favorite).
1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette/Modern Renaissance
This palette is pretty much perfection. I honestly never thought anything could replace my Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette, but I think this may have. It pains me a little to say that though which is why MR is included in this blog. When I first saw Soft Glam I was kind of like been there, seen that, I'm bored. However, I started seeing all of the beautiful looks Influencers were creating and how much they were loving it. It really is just the perfect palette and I find this is the palette I reach for on the daily and take traveling with me. It's beautiful for brides, for everyday and the office, but you can definitely smoke it out for night time. That said, there will always be a very special place in my heart for Modern Renaissance and I highly recommend that one as well, especially if you like berry tones and oranges. Although there are some duplicate shades, I give you permission to get both!
2. Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette
This palette is just so special and beautiful. Reds, Oranges and Purples oh my! There's also a variety of formulas, some mattes, shimmers, toppers and even a pressed glitter. You can create really fun and dramatic looks, but also neutral wearable looks. I honestly didn't think I'd love it as much as I do, but I really, really love this palette. If you don't love the color story or the high price point, I'd also recommend Huda Beauty's mini obsession palettes. They come in a variety of colors, are easy to work with, great for travel and just really pretty.
3. Dominique Cosmetics Latte Palette
This is another palette that isn't necessarily the most groundbreaking or unique, but it's just good. The shadows are so creamy. I love that you can use vanilla cream to brighten your under eyes in addition to using it as a shadow. I love that it's mostly matte shades, but the three shimmer shades are gorgeous. The two pops of color are perfect. This is another palette that never fails me.
4. Urban Decay Born to Run Palette
This palette was actually created with a traveler in mind. I say this like I'm a huge traveler and I'm really not, but I still like my all in one palettes. The shades in Born to Run are so stunning and rich. They are kind of fall/grunge like, which I am all about. They are also easy to work with.
5. Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Palette
This is definitely one of my go to palettes. Jaclyn really killed it with this one. There are so many transition shades, the beautiful warm tones we all love so much and stunning pops of color. I also love the highlight shades. I'm not going to lie, I really don't typically like Morphe's eyeshadows, but this palette is blend able, pigmented and the amount of shades you get for the price point really can't be beat. PS please do not confuse this with her new Vault Palettes. The formula is not the same. I'm a professionally trained makup artist and I find them really patchy, hard to blend and not pigmented. Stick with the original!
6. The Persona Identity Palette
This palette is my new obsession. The quality is so good and the price is so reasonable. I really love that you have warm and cool tones in the palette. The bronze shades, the plum shades, you can create so many amazing looks with this palette. I'd highly recommend.
Honorable Mentions: Dose of Colors 5 pan palettes
From mauves and berries, to brown and sienna's these little palettes are amazing. There are only 5 shades in each (you probably gathered that from the heading), but they are just so beautiful and easy to work with. They are all matte shades, which I happen to love, but if you like pops of shimmer then you would need to reach for another palette. They are super sleek and compact, which makes them perfect for traveling and the brush that comes inside is actually really good.
Juvias Place: I'm just going to say Juvias Place palettes in general (my personal favorite is the Douce, but i think the Masquerade is the most bang for your buck). The formula of these palettes is phenomenal and the price is even better. If you are looking to play with fun pops of color, definitely check out Juvias Place!
Colorpop Palettes: Again, I'm listing this as a whole because Colorpop has so many palettes and they keep coming out with more. They are another brand that boggles my mind with amazing quality pressed shadows at a low price. My personal favorites are the Kathleen Lights Dream Street Palette and the Yes Please Palette, but that's really just based on preference.
Glitter Shadows
These are not palettes, but i feel like I have to mention them especially if you like glitters. They are all pretty pricey, especially for one eye color but they are just special and take any eye look to the next level. My all time fave are the Hourglass glimmer veils. They make your eyes look wet and sparkly and so stunning. If you are looking for a slightly less expensive version, I also love the tarte chrome pots. They are slightly more pigmented/glittery as opposed to wet looking, but absolutely gorgeous nonetheless. And finally, the Stila Magnificent Metals. Not only are all of these so beautiful on the eyes, they are so easy to work with, they last all day and you don't need any glitter glue!

Ulta 21 Days of Beauty - Best Buys, Best Deals and My Recommendations
All of these makeup sales are making my wallet sad, but my heart happy. Right now, Ulta's 21 Days of Beauty is happening! Below are some of the best deals and all of my recommendations.
https://www.ulta.com/21days/
September 7th
Monsieur Big!!This is definitely a great day of the sale if you ask me. My very favorite mascara Lancome's Monseir Big will be on sale for $12.50 (it's usually $25). This mascara makes my lashes look so fluffy and voluminous. I'd def suggest stocking up.
September 8th
Ofra highlighters are on sale! If you like a blinding glow, these highlights are stunning. For my fair skin I love pillow talk and glazed donut. Rodeo Drive is definitely a favorite of many influencers as well.
September 11th
If you are extra like me and in need (or in want) of an eyelash primer, the Lancome one (on sale for 12.75) is a great one. I also the think the buxom lip liners for $9 is a good deal. I'll be honest, I've never tried them, but am a fan of Buxom lip products in general.
September 14th
This is a good day for the sale. I've heard amazing things about the It Cosmetics Brow Pencil. Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks are on sale as well. I'm not personally a fan of liquid lipsticks but dose of colors has a nice formula if you do like them. Stone and Truffle are the most popular colors. I've also heard great things about Dermalogica skin care.
September 15th
This is probably the day that I'm most excited for because my cover FX perfect setting powder is $17. 50 (it's usually $35!) I've already gone through one of these. This powder helps to blur my skin giving it that airbrushed effect. It also sets my makeup in place without making me look dry. Tarte's Light's Camera Lashes is a nice mascara as well. I'm partial to Monsieur Big, but this is still a good deal.
September 16th
Although I won't be grabbing anything, this is a pretty good day. The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette is a cult favorite and I've heard good things. Philosopy Hope in a Jar is a very nice moisturizer and benefit has my favorite brown product. The Goof Proof wasn't my perfect pencil, but certainly a decent one if you're in the market for brow products.
September 17th
The first aid beauty face cleanser is my favorite and i definitely plan to pick this up at $10. First Aid Beauty is awesome and I just love all of their products. They are gentle on my skin, they work really well and they are affordable.
September 20th
I skipped a few days there. On September 20th, I definitely enjoy the cover FX custom enhancing and glitter drops. I like the mix the custom enhancer drops in with my foundation to give me an extra little glow. These can also be used as highlights.
September 21
To be honest, this day isn't the most exciting for me but...I've heard good things about the Benefit Porefessional Primer if you deal with large pores and also have heard the Patchology eye gels are delightful.

The Secret Life of Jeffree Star, The End of Laura Lee & What Beauty Influencers Should Be
I have a confession to make. Sometimes, in the privacy of my own apartment, I snuggle under the covers and watch my guilty pleasure on Youtube. Her name is Karina Kaboom and she's a drama channel. Sitting in front of about ten stuffed animals, Karina spills the tea on all the latest gossip in the community. Her videos aren't high in production quality, it's actually fairly rare for her to insert video clips. She's also very fond of the word allegedly. I can't rationally explain to you why I started watching her or why I continue to, but here we are.
If you are addicted to Youtube makeup channels like I am, you are also familiar with the controversies that often follow our favorite Youtubers. Jaclyn Hill pretty much never has a makeup collaboration launch without some kind of drama. And then there's Jeffree Star. It's a rare day if Jeffree Star in not mentioned on a drama channel along with his ex friends Manny MUA and Laura Lee.
I've never supported any of these individuals. I am not subscribed to their channels, I have never purchased makeup from their brands. I don't connect with them on any kind of personal level and find them to be fairly obnoxious and polarizing. Then Shane Dawson released a series entitled "The Secret Life of Jeffree Star." Behind the scenes of his glamorous lifestyle (and boy is it glamorous) is a man who has gone through unspeakable heartache, heartbreak and abuse. He was open, honest, vulnerable and real. He's apologized numerous times for his past mistakes and I think that Jeffree Star has truly changed and grown. I think drama is in his blood, he will always tell it like it is and it will continue to follow him (or he will continue to actively insert himself in it.) That said, I think he has become someone worthy of my support. I respect everything he's been through and everything he's accomplished. I've witnesses his generosity, his willingness to take others under his wing and show them the ropes.
Two of the people he took under his wing are Manny MUA and Laura Lee. The world may never know what led to their falling out, but I feel that no matter what happened Jeffree Star deserves more respect and gratitude then they've given him. A mean picture taken on a brand trip surfaced and led to people uncovering a series of old tweets from Laura Lee that were racist and cruel (fat shaming for instance).
As a publicist, I often think of what I would advice my clients to do if they were in that situation. In this case, I would have advised Laura to immediately make a heartfelt apology. I'd tell her to offer no excuses and to own up to everything. I'd tell her to take a long break from social media and use that time to work on herself and figure out ways to actively give back to the people she hurt and the community who has supported her for so long. I'd suggest she also call Jeffree Star to apologize.
That is not exactly what Laura Lee did. First, she deleted her Twitter most likely to avoid all of the backlash she was receiving. One day later, it was back up. Then instead of putting up an apology video, she put up a makeup video like nothing happened. Finally, she put up an apology video where she claimed the cruel tweets that she wrote were "retweets" and blamed this on being a small town girl from Alabama. There was a lot of crying, but nothing seemed genuine.
Laura has lost a ton of followers and brands seem to be dropping her and quite honestly, I think that is the correct thing to do. I do not support bullying her, but I think it's important for the beauty community to take a stand and show that this kind of behavior and hate will NOT be tolerated. We have the power to decide which influencers will get millions of followers and brand trips and it's time we start choosing better.
Jkissa is an extremely talented makeup artist/beauty influencer who never gets involved in drama. She rescues pittbulls and uses her channel as a platform to educate the importance of adopting animals. Her channel is vegan and cruelty free. She's honest with her subscribers only recommending brads and products she truly loves. She is someone who deserves 5 million subscribers and the opportunity to collaborate with any brand she chooses. She is someone we can actually admire and look up to.
Christen Dominique has over a million followers and her own beauty line that is now sold at Sephora. Yet she responds to her fans on Twitter whenever she can. She's always kind and respectful, never speaking badly of anyone. When people had issues with her second palette, she immediately sent EVERYONE who ordered her palette a new one, no hassle and no questions asked. You can tell that she's grateful for her success and that it hasn't changed her.
Nicole Renee Cutler also has an organization dedicated to rescuing animals and features animals in need on her channel regularly. She doesn't announce giveaways as click bait, but announces them in videos so that only her loyal subscribers have a chance to win. She much prefers affordable products and has no problem choosing an affordable dupe over a luxury item that was sent to her in PR.
Raw Beauty Kristi, Samantha Ravndahl, Jamie Page and Alanna Davison are friendship goals. These are girls are who are genuinely supportive of each other, who build each other up. They are honest with their subscribers, they talk about real issues (depression, self esteem, etc). They've been in the game for a long time, but they've stayed true to themselves and the friends who have been there for them, not the people they think might increase their viewership or further their careers.
These are the people we should be supporting. It's the beauty guru's who would turn down a brand trip to Ibiza because a brand is not cruelty free, the beauty influencers who will risk getting kicked off a PR list to give their honest review, the influencers who don't clap back to drama, the beauty influencers who do what they are doing not for fame or fortune, but for a genuine love of their craft and a genuine love for their subscribers.

Bachelor in Paradise Recap - I Love Colton. I Just Do
It's the most wonderful time of the year. The birds are chirping, the raccoons are looking for new friends to talk to and Wells is pouring some cocktails. Our favorite Bachelors and Bachelorettes (as well as quite a few we can't remember for the life of us) have come to Paradise to find sex. I mean, love. They've come to find love. Obviously. They are all sporting their Diff eyewear and floral rompers from Becca's boutique. Or Lauren boutique. Or Jojo's boutique. They all have boutiques.
It's great catching up with our old Bachelor friends. Krystal has learned to talk like a normal human. Wills is still wearing funky shirts. Wills, Wells, Potato, Potaaato, I'm starting to get confused here, but I shall continue. Kendall is still quirky as ever and we are finally getting to know Grocery Store Joe. To be honest, it doesn't seem like there's all that much to him but he is adorable and seems sweet. He's the labrador retriever that Jordan claims to be, but Jordan is a small poodle. Speaking of Jordan, seems like not much has changed with him. He still thinks his face, his professionality and the fact that he can walk and talk make him the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have a feeling that this isn't going to end well for Annalise, but she is scared of dogs so there's that. Now she can add male models to her list of fears along with furry friends and bumper cars.
I am just going to touch on some of the other people before getting down to the juicy tomato (Tia and Colton obviously). Who on earth is Angela? Who on earth is Nysha? Although, I love that they refer to David as "former chicken" i am very surprised and upset that he does not fall off a bunk bed during the opening theme song. After all, it's almost paradise - not actual paradise and there are in fact bunk beds. One thing David has taught us is that bunk beds can be dangerous even for grown ass men. Additionally, it seems that David's main purpose in life is to cock block Jordan.
Who are you???
I don't get Chris. Sure, he looks like Danny from NKOTB and I looove NKOTB though not going to lie, Danny was always my least favorite. Chris had a crazy emotional breakdown on Becca's season and reminded us all of Chandler's creepy roommate on Friends.
Still, his heartfelt apology on Instagram was nice and I was ready to give him a chance. I'm kind of over that. Judging from how nuts he is being towards Colton and the dramatic previews that imply he will ditch Tia for Crystal...Chris is just not my cup of tea. He is like overly emotionally chamomile tea and I'm a peppermint kind of girl.
Which is Chris? Which is NKOTB Danny? #twinsies
Speaking of Tia...here we go. Tia has been getting a TON of hate on social media and I am totally opposed to any type of online bullying so I'm going to try and be as nice as possible keeping in mind that I don't know Tia in real life, she is a human being, and she's never done anything that is actually awful. Maybe because she's Raven's friend and southern, I expected to love her because I really enjoyed Raven. First, Tia threw young Bekah under the bus on Arie's season. It was kind of a dick move, but it's not like she murdered my cat.. Then she told Bachelorette Becca to go for it with Colton in the beginning of their relationship and then took that back and said she had feelings once they were much more serious. Again, kind of a dick move, but no furry friends murdered. On Paradise she's just been insufferable. I'm all for girls standing up for themselves and refusing to be strung along, but if I were Colton I probably would have told her to stick that rose up her arse. Ridiculous ultimatum's are not the way to a man's heart.
Although Tia informed Colton that no one else wanted him there and if he didn't commit to her he would be doomed forever, in a crazy twist of events, Bibiana gave Colton her rose!! I love Bibiana cause Bibiana gives zero fucks. Also, her uterus is ready for some action and that is a direct quote.
I've honestly been looking for reasons to not like Colton. It seems like there are things he could have been more upfront about. I feel like his relationship with Tia was more than just one night. Perhaps he does find himself attracted to girls in the public eye whether it's Aly Raisman, the Bachelorette or a girl who was most likely going to be the Bachelorette before Arie pulled the old fiance switcharoo. Perhaps he wasn't on the show for the right reasons, but let's be honest...is anyone? I assume most contestants figure they have a slim chance of getting engaged, but have a high chance of being able to quit their 9-5 jobs to promote gummy vitamins, fabfitfun boxes and start their own podcast. Best case scenario, they happen to make some friends and maybe even fall in love. I'm sure most or all are somewhat open to that, but they are really in it for the potential podcast opportunities.
Colton is kind of like a mythical unicorn. He is a hot athlete who is also a virgin! He has a foundation dedicated to helping kids with Cystic Fibrosis! He takes many, many pictures with adorable puppies. He really did seem to have genuine feelings for Becca and his reaction to seeing her in Paradise confirmed that for me. I really don't blame him for wanting to go on Paradise, have fun, get over his heartbreak and increase his chances for Instagram sponsorships. I felt like he was pretty upfront with Tia. He wasn't stringing her along telling her one thing in private and then sneaking off with the mysterious Angela behind her back. He basically told her he didn't know what he wanted, which in guy terms means I'm just not that into you. I do not think he deserved the wrath of Tia and he definitely did not deserve the wrath of the three stooges (Chris, Jordan and some guy named Nick who I also don't have any recollection of).
I'm sure Tia is a nice person. She is beautiful and I truly hope she finds love and happiness. I just don't find myself actively rooting because she's not the most...how do I say this...likeable. There, I said it. Maybe Colton wants to be famous, but he also helps kids with Cystic Fibrosis. We know he's not planning to sleep with every girl in Paradise. It takes a lot for a guy to admit they are a virgin on national television. I think that speaks to his character and I give him credit. I believe he did fall in love with Becca and he deserves to go to Paradise and have some fun. As he said, he and Tia had like one or two dates and he doesn't really owe her anything. He's not pulling a Dean and being shady, he has been totally upfront. He wants to keep the door open with Tia, but he's not ready to commit to anyone and I don't fault him for that. I LOVE COLTON, COLTON WILL YOU ACCEPT MY ROSE!
Sorry, that just came out.
OK, where was I? Ah yes, Colton is a magical unicorn and I want to wipe his tears and feed him scallops from Scallop fingers leftover container. I miss scallop fingers, I hope she returns. I also hope Sarah Hyland makes a visit to paradise because she and Wells are the cutest couple everrr. Seriously, they are goals.
Paradise is like the wind. It's constantly changing. People come and people go. Relationships start quickly and end even more quickly. Thank goodness it's on again tonight because clearly i'm very invested. Who will be the next Jade and Tanner/Carly and Evan? Will Jordan find love with someone other than himself or will David continue to cock block him? Is David safe from the danger that is bunk beds? Will Annalise be forced to ride in a bumper car with a labrador on her next date or is she destined to leave Paradise broken hearted? Will Grocery Store Joe finally get his happy ending? Can't you just see him and Kendall owning their own little farm with a grocery store and tons of stuffed taxidermy animals roaming around? Well, I guess stuffed dead animals don't actually roam, but I think you can grasp my vision. And finally, Will Tia and Colton be the next Jared and Ashely I? After years of tears, will they/won't they and a stint on Winter Games where Tia meets someone else, will Colton finally realize his undying love for her? Or is the end of Coltia (look I shipped them) forever?
Only time will tell, but I'm sure this season will be the most dramatic one ever because they always are.
PS Marry me Colton. I know I don't know you and I'm not famous. But I'm a publicist who represent famous people. I used to frequent the Playboy Mansion and I have a very cute rescue dog named Simon.
Online Bullying - Tales From A Celebrity Publicist (And Human Being)
The internet is a very dark place right now. It's mind boggling. When I used to think about the term bullying, I thought about middle school and high school. Movies like "Cyberbully," "Odd Girl Out" and shows like "Thirteen Reasons Why" basically depict all of the reasons I'm constantly thankful that social media really didn't exist during my teenage years.
You think that when you become an adult, you are free and clear. We grow up, we mature and we learn how to be comfortable in our own skin. Lately, I've learned that middle aged adults can be far more cruel than kids.
I also once thought that famous people didn't really have a right to complain. Lack of privacy and a few haters didn't seem like a high price to pay for getting paid tons of money to do what they loved, having millions of adoring and fans and traveling around the world in private jets. That said, actors like Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts began acting long before there was social media and paparazzi hiding in bushes. I imagine they entered this industry due to a genuine passion for their craft as opposed to people today who have an idea of what they are in for and especially people who are famous for being famous and documenting their lives on television. Either way, vicious bullying and constant online attacks are NOT OK.
I started watching Youtube for makeup tutorials. To me Youtube was about learning new things from how to cut a crease to how to change a tire. I would be watching my favorite Youtube beauty gurus and I'd be shocked at how many hateful comments they would receive and for no reason! Thinking someone's foundation is patchy, their voice is too nasally or their eyeshadow is not blended is not a reason to call someone a disgusting bitch. Yet is happens all the time. Beauty guru Amanada Ensing put out a video this week and I'm going to link it below because I really love and agree with everything she says.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvFqoCtOPXc
I have one client who has been bullied and abused his entire life. I've worked with this client for a few years and I've known him even longer. I've received a lot of comments calling me unprofessional for defending him (and myself) on social media, for my own social media accounts and basically for existing. When you work with someone very closely, you become friends. You share weddings and birthdays, you meet each others family, you speak most days. It's quite common to see celebrities out with their "team." Publicists now often appear on reality show and some even have their own reality shows. Does that make them unprofessional? The world has changed a lot, but one thing that hasn't changed - if you are happy with yourself you won't feel the need to judge someone else.
The reason the "unprofessional" comment gets to me more than the others (and I've been called every derogatory name in the book by these people) is because I do agree with them about engaging. As a publicist, I shouldn't engage. I advise my clients not to engage. It only adds fuel to the fire and nothing good ever comes from it. Giving these people the satisfaction of a response is exactly what they want. Logically I know this. As a publicist I know this. As a human being, it's fucking hard.
Imagine being attacked online everyday. Imagine seeing people you care about being viciously attacked everyday. That's actually sometimes even harder then when it's you. They are saying horrible things, false things, things that could destroy careers and even lives. As a human being, sometimes you get pushed past your limit even if your limit is high. Sometimes you are going to fucking respond.
Celebrities having their own social media is a double edged sword. On one hand, it gives fans the opportunity to directly interact with their idols. It allows the public to feel like they know these people and get glimpses of their lives and their thoughts. As a publicist, it can be a nightmare. As "reps," we are used to speaking on behalf of our clients. I've never been the type of publicist to really spin something and I would never lie. I believe if you make a mistake then you should own up to it, apologize, say you will do better and then actually do better. Yet, I'm all about taking time to respond to things with a calm and well thought out statement, as opposed to emotionally responding in the moment. That rarely goes well for anyone, but social media makes it really, really difficult and I'll admit, as much as I hate when clients respond emotionally and in the moment - I get it.
The biggest thing I've learned working with celebrities is...wait for it...they are human beings. They have feelings. They see the awful things you tweet to them. If you saw Bella Thorne at a grocery store would you slut shame her in the parking lot? If you ran into Asia Argento on the street, would you tell her she was responsible for Anthony Bourdain's death and say she deserves to die too? I'm guessing you wouldn't. It's much easier to cowardly hide behind your computer and possibly even a fake account.
At the end of the movie "Odd Girl Out," our heroine finally stands up to her bully. She says "you have nothing that I want." There was one time when I was having a bad day and watching a video from one of the beauty guru's I subscribe to. She was doing a PR haul (many influencers get sent tons of free makeup to test out) and showing all of these amazing new products. She was talking about how she never went to makeup school and basically just learned from watching other Youtube videos. For some reason, this made me mad. I did go to Makeup School. I'm a better makeup artist than she is. I should be getting free makeup and having subscribers. I started typing out a rude comment and then stopped myself because what was I doing? Why was I writing a hurtful comment to anyone, let alone someone I never even met. Here was this girl who seemed perfectly sweet and clearly worked hard on her channel and her content. I wasn't upset with her, I was upset with myself for never starting my own makeup channel. She had something that I wanted, but that was no reason to be mean to her. A week later she put up a video announcing she has cancer.
You never know what someone is going through. They could be battling depression or some other serious illness. They could be going through a divorce or the loss of a loved one. I was so glad I never wrote that comment. From that day forward, I made it a point to only comment really positive things. If I didn't like something then I would either say nothing or unsubscribe to their channel, no hurtful comment necessary.
Last week I read the open letter from Mira Sorvino and many of the brave voices from the Me Too movement pleading with people to stop bullying Asia Argento. We live in a world where a victim of sexual abuse, who just lost the love of her life to suicide, will then be viciously attacked on social media. If that wasn't mind boggling enough, just go to Anthony Rapp's twitter page. A letter from victims of sexual abuse, people who were brave and strong enough to share their painful experiences with the entire world, wrote an open letter asking for compassion. Somehow, people still found the need to respond to that with hate.
In business, I've always been taught that the tone is often set at the top and we have a President who will openly bully anyone who opposes him. Donald Trump is setting the tone for our country and that tone is that it's OK to call people horrible names on Twitter if they do anything you don't like.
I wish I could share with you some of message and tweets my client receives every single minute of every single day. There is an actual group of people who spend their entire days actively trying to ruin his life. They make videos, they plot, they post blogs, they even have bots! Their relentless bullying of him has extended to his fans, family, friends, colleagues and anyone and everyone who defends him. Now you might be asking yourself, who has time for this? Why would anyone spend their valuable time obsessing about a public figure they've never met? I can think of so many better uses of my time. I could binge watch Netflix or take my dog for a walk. I could write a book or go to dinner with friends. I could go to the gym or knit a sweater (well I could learn how to knit a sweater). Literally any of these things would be more productive than being online bashing someone and being so hateful.
The thing I've realized is that they have NOTHING that I want. They must be so miserable and unhappy in their own lives to feel this need to bring others down to feel better about themselves. They are getting some attention and for some, negative attention is better than no attention at all. I imagine them to be really lonely and it probably feels nice to be part of something - even if that something is a mission to hurt other people. They don't know that I work my butt off at my job and have spent years developing relationships in this industry and proving myself. They don't know that I rescue dogs in my free time or have the most amazing family in the world. They don't know that I would NEVER align myself personally or professionally with an individual who I didn't respect or believe in. They don't know anything about me. They don't know anything about my client either because everything I've ever seen them say is completely and 100 percent false.
I hope someone reads this and realizes that if you are being bullied you are definitely not alone. Some of the most famous, talented and beautiful people in the world are being bullied every single day. It's because people are jealous. It's because you have something that they desperately want. If you are reading this and you are a bully, I hope you have a moment like the one that I had when I stopped myself from posting that mean comment on Youtube. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, I hope you realize that it's also not OK to say online. I hope you find happiness and instead of using your time to hate on others, you use your time to try and love yourself.
I can't promise I'll never engage again because I'm human and sometimes it's impossible not to defend yourself and the people you care about. I can promise that I will always carefully choose my words and think about how they will affect others. I can promise that I will NEVER actively or intentionally try to hurt anyone else's feelings. I hope with all of my heart that one day social media can be a happy place again. A place where we reconnect with old friends, meet potential husbands and share funny memes.

July 2018 Makeup Releases Wish List: Hourglass, Bite Beauty, Norvina Palette, Kush Mascara & More!
New makeup is being released all the time and at the speed of lightening. I'm addicted to watching Youtube beauty guru's, which makes me feel like it's normal to have 100 eyeshadow palettes, 20 foundations (one for every season and more!) and enough highlighters to glow from space. Unfortunately, I neither have the bank account or the free PR influencers get, so I can only make wish lists. Here goes...
PS: A lot of these photos were taken from Trendmood1 on Instagram. She posts all upcoming releases so if you're looking to go broke, I mean if you want to know all the new makeup releases before they are even out, you should definitely follow her.
1. The Norvina Palette
Is this not the prettiest? I love Anastasia palettes and I'm so happy they did a cool toned/purple one. This is definitely number one on my list. I do not need any more eyeshadow palettes ever. But then again...yes I do.
2. Hourglass crystal shadows
I honestly don't even really know what these are, I just know I want them. They kind of remind me of the Tarte chrome paints, which I adore. Hourglass products are pretty much all amazing and I'm loving any sort of cream products these days thanks to Samantha Ravndahl and her glowy skin goals.
3. Sol de Janeiro Glow Oil
You know by now that I'm obsessed with the Bum Bum cream. The body wash is also amazing. Their products are so moisturizing and they smell like heaven. I saw Kathleen lights try this product out and it looked so beautiful, I just want to rub it all over my body.
4. Nastasha Denona Super Glow
Natasha Denona...so expensive, but so beautiful. These highlights are supposed to make your skin look like glass and quite frankly, I want my skin to look like glass.
5. Laura Mercier Blushes
Do these colors not make you happy? Pretty much all of my blushes are peach or nude pinks so I've decided I need a cool toned purple shade. To go with my new Norvina palette muhahah.
6. Bite Beauty French Press Lip Gloss
Bite Beauty has definitely become one of my all time favorite brands for lip products. Their french press lip glosses inspired by coffee (and that smell like coffee) look so beautiful. Also, Samantha Ravndahl loves them. Also, coffee is one of my very favorite things in this world.
7. Milk Makeup Kush Mascara
A mascara infused with CBD oil. Need I say more? Also, Jkissa loves it.
What products are you eyeing?
